Book Review – What Kind of Loser Indie Publishes, and How Can I Be One, Too? by Pamela Fagan Hutchins

LoserAttention Indie Publishers!!  If you want to know how to Indie publish, or Indie market, or Indie anything book-related, this is the book for you!

Pamela Fagan Hutchins puts a humorous spin in this how-to book which is literally bursting at the seams with information on being a successful AuthorpreneurLOSER, as she affectionately refers to her guide, gives real advice to real writers who want to be successful at Indie Publishing, both fiction and non.  Pamela writes both, and she graciously shares the information she’s learned along the way, along with samples, recommendations, and tons of links for everything from cover designers, to marketing plans, to how to use Twitter.

But this book is not for the faint of heart.  Pamela appropriately approaches Indie Publishing as a business, since Indie writers-turned-celebrities overnight are as rare as the Fairy Godmother who might make that happen.  And make no mistake, Pamela and her husband, Eric, and their very own SkipJack Publishing Company are following a strict business plan (a copy of which she also includes in her book!).

I was initially overwhelmed by Pamela’s plethora of suggestions, nuggets of wisdom, and recommendations (not to mention being quite intimidated by her two-and-a-half-month author publicity road trip in an RV decked out in author advertisements). I thought my head might just explode before I finished reading it.  But……how can you live without all of this great info learned the hard way by someone who is so successful living it herself??

I couldn’t.  And Pamela gave me good personal advice – just keep chipping away at it, and do what’s most important. And approach it like a business (please don’t ever use the H.O.B.B.Y. word).

I decided the eBook wasn’t even enough – I needed the paperback as well, to highlight things I need to do, bookmark all those great links I need to check, and carry around with me until the pages are dog-eared.  I’m ready to go.

Thanks again Pamela for the great advice, and sharing your hard-earned wisdom.  We Indies appreciate you!
